Well, I guess this is the last post for now. It was a really fun semester to go through with because I was really terribly busy with all my uni stuff and this is a part of it. So yeah. For today's post, our lecturer's question was to post up a summary to the subject that you have studied for the whole semester, which is Introduction to Journalism and we are also to give an opinion on privilege and challenges of being a journalist. It seems sentimental as this is one of my favourite subject for the whole semester. I really do enjoy being in the class.
So about my summary. I will be talking about week after week of lessons.
- First week, there were nothing much. Just that the lecturer gave us some time to know about our friends around us. The activity that she gave us is that we have to pick out a coin, and look at the year on the coin. Then we have to ask our friend about what happened on the year of their coin. Well, my partner was Jonathan Christopher Wood. He was a long friend of mine. Counted long as we met during our foundation year and we were on our first assignment together.
- On the Second week, we started off with the first lecture which is about what is journalism and what a journalist do and everything. The tutorial was based on a movie DayBreak. Well, if you wanna know more, here is the link http://bemyguesseveryday.blogspot.com/2014/05/daybreak.html
- On the Third week, our lesson was on chapter 2 and it was about the roles and principles of a journalism. For the tutorial, we did an opinion based tutorial on our blog and we were asked to talk about the comic strip in our lecture slides. Assignment 1 was released on this week and the assignment was about summarizing an article and talks on whether the article have the principles of journalism.
- On the forth week, we were taught on the third chapter, Style of news and news element. Not much to talk about. The assignment 2 was released on this week. The assignment two, was quite simple. We were asked to find a sensational article and see whther the article have all the principles of journalism or not.
- On the Fifth Week, we were taught on the forth chapter, basic news reporting. We learned on how to write like a journalist. The inverted pyramid style and the 5W1H.
- On Sixth week, we were taught on the Fifth chapter, writing an interview. The third assignment was released on this week. We were asked to interview a single person who have great achievements and everything to inspire us to work harder. I chose two of my best friends, Kah Yung and Zhi Hong for the interview.
- On the Seventh week, it was the rest week. We were asked to watch a movie, Never Been Kissed in class and write a blog post for tutorial for it.
- On the eighth week, it was the submission of assignment 3 and release of assignment 4. We submitted the assignment 3 and the assignment 4 was announced on that day itself.
- On the ninth week, we were taught on the chapter 6, which is News paper and Types of newspaper. This was the last chapter taught and this week was the submission of assignment 4. After this week was all about presentation and releasing the Final Project.
Well, that is about what I've gone through for the whole semester. It was fun studying in this class. So the privileges of being a journalist is depending on what type of journalist you wanna be. For instance, travel journalist. Being a travel journalist, you are able to go out to all around the world, free of charge. All expenses paid for by the company. That is the privilege that we might get. But for the challenges, I think it would be the deadlines and all the shouting from your editors. Being a journalist, we do have a lot of deadline that we need to catch up and if we were not able to do it, we will be shouted by our editors. That we have to keep in mind.
For me, my pathway next time will not be a journalist. It is too stressful for me to handle. But I still enjoy being in the class and everything. I learned a lot about journalism where I did not know anything about it before. I thank my lecturer for giving us such a wonderful time in class. Thank you very much. :)
